SUPPORTERS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!!

Since Smokey's rescue, there have been requests to expand our services to specifically cover Military Pets. This page and project is a result of that.

The only problem is that more programs cost more money. This program has to be self-supporting by contributions from the public - otherwise we cannot provide more than information.

Help us help them - donate now by using the form to the right of this page. We can't help without your support.

The Forgotten Family Members

No one is keeping records of the number of pets that are being left behind due to the military commitments of their owners.

Owner surrenders are usually the first to die in kill shelters. That's just a cold hard fact.

We do want to shed a light on this issue and try to save the lives of pets that are finding themselves with no home of their own.

No one organization can do this alone. It takes volunteer's homes, hearts and money to help bridge the gap and save the lives of these beloved family members.

Can you open your heart, your home or your wallet to ensure that our military personnel can be deployed knowing that their pet will be safe and secure until they return?

Here's how you can help:

  • Can you foster a pet for 12 months or more?
  • Are you a vet who can donate services for free or at a reduced rate for military pets?
  • Do you have time to spread the word or coordinate activities in your community?
  • Are you able to help transport a pet to safety?
  • Can you foster a pet short term - overnight, a week or more - to help assist a transport?
  • Are you willing to do a short term foster for foster families that are going on vacation?
  • Become a back-up foster family to existing fosters in case of emergency.
  • Can you help fund raise or donate directly to this cause?
Talk about it every day!! Don't think it won't happen to your pet - people call us everyday with the same story.
  • Spread the word to every pet owner or potential pet owner to plan for their pet's future. Many pets die because of sudden changes in lifestyle, health and other unforeseen circumstances beyond the owner's control. Make sure it is in writing, post it on your refrigerator and be sure everyone knows.
  • Get two free "EMERGENCY CARDS" for your wallet - You list two caretakers and your vet's contact information incase you are in an accident or otherwise unable to speak for your pet. Send a SASE to: Fauna Rescue, Inc., EMERGENCY CARDS, POB 6142, Nashua, NH 03063 today and we'll send them out to you immediately. It's not a joke - we have lots of stories of pets left alone for up to two weeks because no one knew they weren't being taken care of. Don't let your pet suffer or die because you didn't think it could happen to you.
All pets that utilize Fauna Rescue, Inc.'s Military Pet Program must meet a minimum of the following conditions:
  • All pets must be spayed/neutered (either prior to entering the program or immediately following acceptance). Exceptions will be made for certain species, such as birds, where spaying and/or neutering is not a viable or safe option.
  • Every pet entering the program must have a valid health certificate at the time of transfer.
  • Owner makes agreement with the foster family directly. We provide contacts, but are not responsible or liable for the care or fulfillment of the agreement. Fauna Rescue, Inc. will agree to manage funds for the pet's care at the owner's request only for funds directly given to Fauna Rescue on their pet's behalf.
  • The owner needs to make a back-up provision with the foster family in the event that the foster family finds themselves unable to complete their agreement.
  • A provision clause must be provided for the placement of the pet after the agreed upon time period. Additional provisions must be made in the case of the owner not returning or unable to take back ownership of the pet after the agreed upon date.
  • Unless otherwise agreed upon, or funds put aside for the pet, the foster family is fully responsible for the feeding, shelter and medical care of the pet. Funds may be sent to Fauna Rescue specifically for a named pet, but Fauna Rescue, Inc. cannot be relied upon for any expenses incurred outside of the funds contributed by the owner. Balance of funds after the pet's agreement is terminated go to the general fund.
  • Fauna Rescue, Inc. cannot be held liable for any injury or death of the pet that utilizes this program. It is up to the owner to screen the potential foster home. Foster homes and pets registered through our program are eligible for funds as they are available - but if there are no funds we cannot help.
